  • How many tennis scholarships are available each year?
The number of tennis scholarships available depends on the division level and the school. For women's tennis, the breakdown is as follows: NCAA Division I offers 8 full scholarships per team, with 320 schools in this division. NCAA Division II provides 6 scholarships per team, available at 212 schools. NCAA Division III has 361 schools, but these schools do not offer athletic scholarships. NAIA offers 5 scholarships per team, across 110 schools. Junior Colleges (NJCAA) provide 9 scholarships per team at 141 schools. For men’s tennis, the scholarships are distributed as follows: NCAA Division I offers 4.5 scholarships per team, split among players. There are 263 schools offering these scholarships. NCAA Division II provides 4.5 scholarships per team across 161 schools. NCAA Division III does not offer athletic scholarships. NAIA provides 5 scholarships per team, across 92 schools. Junior Colleges (NJCAA) offer 9 scholarships per team, with 120 schools providing these opportunities. It's important to note that men’s tennis is an equivalency sport, meaning that the available scholarships may be split between multiple players. Women’s tennis, however, is a head count sport in NCAA Division I, which means all NCAA D1 women’s tennis scholarships are full scholarships. These numbers highlight the importance of choosing the right school based on your academic and athletic goals, and we can help guide you in targeting schools where you are more likely to earn a scholarship.
  • Who is eligible for a tennis scholarship?
Eligibility for a tennis scholarship is based on a combination of factors such as your tennis ranking, tournament results, skill level, academic standing, and personal dedication. In addition to performing well on the court, you'll need to meet the academic requirements set by each college and abide by NCAA or other athletic organization rules. Each level of college tennis (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA) may have different eligibility criteria, which we help athletes navigate.
  • When should I start the process of applying for a tennis scholarship?
We recommend starting the process as early as possible—ideally, at least one to two years before you plan to attend college. The earlier you begin to build your player profile, establish connections with coaches, and understand the recruitment process, the better your chances of securing a scholarship. In some cases, athletes may begin the recruiting process as early as their sophomore or junior year in high school.
  • Do I need to pass any academic tests or meet specific academic criteria for a tennis scholarship?
Yes! To be eligible for a tennis scholarship, you typically need to meet certain academic standards, such as a minimum GPA, standardized test scores (SAT/ACT), and other specific criteria set by NCAA or NAIA. We’ll assist you in preparing for standardized exams like the SAT, TOEFL, or ACT, provide GPA conversion assistance, and ensure that you meet all academic requirements for eligibility.
  • Are tennis scholarships renewable every year?
Most tennis scholarships are renewable each year, provided you meet both academic and athletic performance criteria. You’ll need to maintain a certain GPA and athletic performance to continue receiving your scholarship throughout your college career.
  • What should I look for when selecting a college tennis program?
Choosing the right college tennis program is a crucial step in your journey. Factors to consider include the competitiveness of the program, the coaching staff, academic reputation, campus culture, and available scholarships. We assist with finding schools that align with both your academic and athletic aspirations, helping you navigate the recruiting process and find the perfect fit.
  • What do tennis scholarships cover?
Tennis scholarships can vary in what they cover depending on the division and the type of scholarship, but typically, they are designed to help offset the costs of a college education, including: Tuition Fees: This is the primary cost covered by most scholarships. It includes the cost of classes and academic programs at the university. Room and Board: Many tennis scholarships also cover the cost of housing and meals, which is essential for students living on campus. Books and Supplies: Scholarships can sometimes help cover the cost of academic books and supplies needed for your classes. Travel Expenses: Some scholarships may include financial support for travel, especially for competitions and tournaments. This includes flights, hotel accommodations, and meals. Training and Equipment: Although not always covered, some programs may offer additional funds for training equipment, tennis rackets, gear, and other resources necessary to excel. Medical/Insurance Costs: Some scholarships also provide assistance with health insurance, medical treatments, or recovery costs related to athletic injuries or regular medical requirements. Depending on the university, athletic program, and competition level, tennis scholarships can be either full or partial, meaning they cover the entire cost or just a portion of it. Your scholarship package might also combine academic and athletic awards, offering a more comprehensive financial aid opportunity. At our company, we help guide you through the scholarship options available, advise you on where you might be eligible for the most support, and assist with the application process to maximize your benefits.
